Vermont Salumi

Here are some images from a recent shoot for Vermont Salumi, founded by Peter Colman.
Peter was born in the small italian town of Assisi and grew up on an organic vegetable farm in central Vermont, USA. When visiting his father in Italy in the last summers, he learned traditional Italian butchering methods in multiple apprenticeships.
At Vermont Salumi, he combines these skills with all local organic ingredients, with amazing results.

This summer I had the pleasure of meeting Paula and her son Nicholas. Paula, originally from Brasil, worked with her German boyfriend at the World Trade Center. On September 11, 2001 she was late to work. Her boyfriend perished, she survived.
Paula was pregnant with Nicholas. He is now ten years old.
I photographed them in June for the cover story of Focus magazine in Germany.

Hurricane Irene/Windham

Last weekend, while all eyes were on New York City, Hurricane Irene devastated many communities in Upstate New York and Vermont. One of the hardest hit towns was Windham, NY.
I photographed Main Street for Windham Mountain last winter, these pictures show what this great little town looked like pre-Irene.

last fall I photographed the Argentinean musician Federico Aubele for his upcoming album, "Berlin 13".
My images were altered, but not digitally. Sebastian Litmanovitch (Teatime Studios in London), who designed the CD, projected my images on a wall, combined with images from Berlin.
He then took a picture of that projection. Pretty cool process, I think.

I recently finished shooting four days for Windham Mountain in Upstate New York. The cold and snowy weather, not exactly loved by all, made for a perfect Winter Wonderland in the Catskill Mountains. Thanks again to everyone who has worked with me on this shoot, it couldn't have gone smoother!

Almost to the day 20 years after East Germany ceased to exist I came across these images I took of an abandoned border crossing between East and West Germany.
I was born in East Germany and spent 21 years of my life there. This border was once impenetrable. Now the wall is long gone and I am in New York....
